Gotzon Garcia obtained his bachelor´s degree in Industrial Chemical Engineering at university of the Basque Country (2007), and carried out an internship in research and development of magnetic fluids at iK4-CIDETEC research centre in San Sebastian. He also holds a master´s degree in Energy by Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh (2012), Scotland, where he has lived for over 10 years. His passion and interests in marine energy led him to move to the Orkney Islands, where he gained a broad experience in wave and tidal energy technologies. Moreover, he worked as project engineer for Andritz Hydro-Hammerfest in the MeyGen project – the world’s first commercial tidal energy array – where three 1.5MW tidal stream turbines were successfully installed in the Pentland Firth, Scotland. He joined IREC in 2019 to work with the nanoionics and fuel cells group on a project with the Port of Barcelona in developing power-to-ship solutions using renewable and fuel cell technologies
